Punjab Ramps Up Deportation Drive Against Illegal Foreign Nationals

In view of the prevailing border situation, the Punjab Police have intensified the province-wide campaign to identify and deport foreign nationals residing illegally, resulting in the repatriation of 12,945 individuals — including Afghan nationals — to date, according to an official spokesperson.

The spokesperson stated that over 13,000 individuals without legal documentation have been transferred to designated holding centres established across the province as part of the operation. Currently, 99 illegal residents remain at these facilities pending deportation.

To support the process, 46 holding centres have been set up across Punjab, including five in Lahore, where security arrangements have been placed on high alert to ensure the safe and lawful execution of the campaign.

Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to upholding national security while adhering to international legal standards. “The Punjab Police are implementing the government’s deportation policy for illegal residents in full accordance with international law,” he said.

He added that the entire process is being carried out with due regard for human rights and dignity.
