Punjab Police Foil 31 Terror Attacks, Eliminate 43 Khawarij in Sweeping 18-Month Counterterror Campaign

In a major counter terrorism success, Punjab Police thwarted 31 planned attacks by Khawarij  over the past 18 months, killing 43 Khawarij in decisive operations and significantly strengthening security infrastructure along the province’s sensitive border regions.

According to a detailed report released by the department, 22 attacks were averted in Dera Ghazi Khan and nine in Mianwali two districts that have remained on the front lines of extremist infiltration. “These were not just plots; they were active terror attempts that Punjab Police dismantled through intelligence-led action and unmatched operational readiness,” said Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar.

He noted that the operations came at a high cost, with 15 police officers sustaining serious injuries during engagements with heavily armed militants. “Our personnel demonstrated extraordinary bravery and tactical precision. The sacrifices made by our force are a testament to their unwavering resolve to defend the people of Punjab,” he stated.

Calling the campaign against Kharijite elements “unprecedented in scope and effectiveness,” IG Anwar highlighted that Punjab Police had achieved historic gains in neutralizing threats posed by extremist groups. “These are not routine operations—they are part of a broader strategy to crush the remnants of terror networks that once threatened national stability,” he remarked.

To consolidate these gains, Punjab Police has significantly upgraded its security apparatus in high-risk areas. Border check posts have been reinforced with thermal imaging cameras, advanced firearms, and modern surveillance technologies. “Our tri-border stations and remote outposts are now manned by highly alert, fully equipped personnel ready to counter any threat,” Dr. Anwar said.

The police chief reaffirmed Punjab Police’s commitment to proactive counter terrorism and assured the public that the force remains vigilant, resilient, and prepared to respond to any future threat.
