Police Repel Terrorist Attack at Mandan Checkpoint in Bannu; One Terrorist Killed, Another Injured

A police checkpoint in the Mandan area of Bannu came under attack when motorcycle borne terrorists opened fire in a cowardly assault during routine checking late Tuesday. According to official reports, the police responded with exceptional speed, courage, and precision, successfully foiling the attack and preventing any major loss.

Following the initial exchange, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bannu Region, Sajjad Khan, immediately issued directives, after which District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Yasir Afridi, reached the site along with SP Rural Mahmood Nawaz Khan, DSP Rural Riaz Khattak, and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mandan Police Station. Heavy contingents of police, including QRF, RRF, and APCs, were swiftly deployed, and a comprehensive search operation was launched in the surrounding area.

As a result of the timely and effective police response, one terrorist was killed while another sustained injuries. The identity of the deceased terrorist is being ascertained, while search operations across the area remain ongoing.

DIG Bannu Region Sajjad Khan and DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi praised the police team for their bravery, professionalism, and rapid response, noting that their decisive action prevented what could have been a major tragedy. The DIG announced commendation certificates and cash rewards for the officers who took part in the operation, reaffirming the force’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from the region.

DIG Sajjad Khan further stated that the Bannu police will continue to defeat terrorists on every front and reiterated the resolve to completely eradicate militant elements from the region.
