Two police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were injured in an armed attack on a police mobile van in the Gandheri Bazaar area near Tangi, Charsadda, on Tuesday.
According to local police sources, unidentified assailants, purportedly Khawarij, opened fire on the police vehicle, injuring ASI Zafar and driver Shakeel. Both were swiftly shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Tangi for medical treatment. Their condition is currently reported as stable.
The attack took place during routine patrolling, prompting an immediate response from the district police. Additional force was dispatched to the scene, and a large-scale search operation has been launched to trace the attackers.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where attacks targeting law enforcement agencies have seen an uptick in recent months. While no group has claimed responsibility yet, officials suspect the involvement of militant elements operating in the region.
This attack follows a broader pattern of assaults on police in the province, where officers remain on the front lines of the fight against terrorism and organised crime
