GILGIT-BALTISTAN: Three police personnel were martyred after terrorists opened fire on a police convoy in the region, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to sources, the police team was en route from Chilas to the Thor area to carry out an operation against illegal poppy cultivation when their convoy came under sudden attack. The assailants targeted the vehicles with gunfire, resulting in the martyrdom of three officials.

Security personnel responded immediately, returning fire and engaging the attackers. However, the terrorists managed to flee the scene under the cover of rugged terrain.

A search operation has been launched in the area to trace and apprehend the attackers, while additional security has been deployed to secure surrounding routes.

Cross-Border Shadows

The latest attack underscores a troubling pattern of terrorism with suspected cross-border linkages. Despite repeated assurances by the Afghan Taliban, the de facto rulers in Afghanistan, that their soil would not be used against Pakistan, security officials continue to highlight evidence suggesting otherwise.

Investigations into numerous recent attacks have pointed toward involvement of Afghan nationals or networks operating from across the border. Analysts warn that the persistence of such incidents reflects a disconnect between stated commitments and ground realities.

Pakistani authorities maintain that terrorist groups find facilitation, safe havens, and operational space beyond the border, enabling them to plan and execute attacks inside the country. In response, security forces have intensified vigilance and operational preparedness to counter evolving threats and safeguard national stability.
