Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 remains a shining symbol of national unity and federal cohesion, reaffirming that all state institutions are fulfilling their constitutional roles to ensure collective progress and prosperity.
In his message on the occasion of Constitution Day, observed on April 10, the prime minister said the nation commemorates the adoption of the Constitution with a renewed sense of purpose and unity. He paid tribute to the framers of the document, describing it as a sacred covenant between the state and its citizens that clearly defines rights, responsibilities, and governance structures.
He noted that the Constitution, unanimously approved on April 10, 1973, laid the foundation for a parliamentary democratic system and established a robust institutional framework for the country.
The prime minister emphasized that the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights to all citizens and provides a comprehensive legal mechanism to safeguard those rights. He added that all federating units are contributing positively within the constitutional framework to promote national harmony and economic development.
Reiterating the country’s commitment to progress, he said Pakistan will continue its journey toward stability and prosperity while upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution.

The statement comes as the country marks Constitution Day, commemorating the finalization of the 1973 Constitution, which was formally enforced on August 14, 1973. The document continues to serve as the cornerstone of Pakistan’s legal and political system, shaping governance, protecting rights, and guiding the federation toward a stable and unified future.
