Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that representatives of the United States and Iran have arrived in Pakistan on Islamabad’s invitation, with both sides set to begin talks in the capital following a temporary ceasefire.
Addressing the nation, the prime minister said Pakistan’s leadership acted with confidence during a highly sensitive situation and successfully persuaded both sides to agree to a ceasefire, shifting the situation from active confrontation to dialogue.
He noted that the two sides, previously facing each other in conflict, have now agreed to pursue negotiations, marking a significant diplomatic opening in the region.
Describing the next phase as critical, he said moving from a temporary ceasefire to a lasting one would be decisive. He termed it a “make-or-break” moment, underscoring the importance of sustained engagement.
The prime minister specifically acknowledged the role of Field Marshal Asim Munir, calling his efforts pivotal in defusing tensions and bringing both sides to the negotiating table. He also appreciated the contribution of Ishaq Dar in facilitating the diplomatic process.
He emphasized that a successful outcome of the talks could save countless innocent lives and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to making every possible effort to ensure the negotiations lead to durable peace.
