A fresh attempt to destabilize the peaceful environment of Karak district was decisively foiled as the Karak Police, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and Pakistan Army conducted a successful joint operation in the Surki Lawaghar area of Tehsil Takht-e-Nasrati, neutralizing the threat posed by elements of the Khawarij. Acting on confirmed intelligence regarding the presence of Khawarij operatives in the mountainous region near Surki Lawaghar Dam, security forces launched a coordinated offensive under the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Karak. The operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Takht-e-Nasrati, with Station House Officers (SHOs) from Yaqoob Khan Shaheed and Shah Saleem police stations, supported by a heavy police contingent, CTD units, and Pakistan Army troops.
The area was swiftly cordoned off and a comprehensive search operation was initiated. Aerial surveillance was carried out using drones to monitor the terrain and track suspicious movements. Upon confirmation of Khawarij activity near the dam, Pakistan Army troops responded with mortar fire to suppress their positions, while the Police’s Al-Buraq and Rapid Response squads provided supporting fire using heavy machine guns.
Facing heavy fire, the Khawarij retreated into the difficult terrain of the surrounding hills. While the exact casualties are yet to be confirmed, security officials believe the hostile elements suffered significant damage.
