Unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire in the Shahab Khel area of Lakki Marwat, killing the head of the local peace committee and two of his associates, police sources confirmed. According to initial reports, the slain leader, identified as Ghulam Dastagir alias “Fauji”, was heading the Shahab Khel Peace Jirga and had been playing a key role in community-led security initiatives. He was attacked along with fellow Jirga members Salim Khan and Salahuddin, who also died on the spot.
Police officials said the victims were ambushed by unknown assailants who fled the scene following the deadly assault. Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation in the area, and further investigations are underway.
The incident marks another grim reminder of the growing threat to local peace committees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who often remain on the frontline in efforts to combat militancy and maintain order in restive regions.
Senior police officials condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
