Cross-border firing was reported once again along the Pakistan Afghanistan border in Khyber district after what security sources described as unprovoked firing from the Afghan side, officials said.

According to security sources, the firing began at approximately 5:15 pm near the Maro Sar and Shah Kot Sar heights in the frontier sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The exchange of fire continued intermittently at the time of reporting.

Officials said Afghan positions-initiated firing, prompting a professional and effective response from Pakistani security forces deployed along the border. Troops were maintaining defensive positions to secure the frontier and prevent escalation.

Reports indicated that heavy weapons were used by both sides during the engagement. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Security forces remain on high alert along the border area, closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation along the sensitive frontier belt near the Durand Line.

Authorities have not released additional operational details, and the situation is under continuous observation.
