Pakistan Will Not Hesitate to Conduct Air Operations in Afghanistan if Threats Persist: Defense Minister

Pakistan’s Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif, has stated that Pakistan will not hesitate to carry out air operations inside Afghanistan if militant threats against its territory continue. In an interview with a French broadcasting outlet, the Defense Minister underscored Pakistan’s firm resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and national security in the face of escalating cross-border terrorism. He emphasized that any action taken would be strictly in defense of Pakistan’s territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens.

Khawaja Asif alleged that recent attacks inside Pakistan are the result of a coordinated proxy strategy involving the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan and India. According to the minister, militant groups operating from Afghan soil—including the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) continue to plan and execute operations targeting Pakistan.

“Attacks against Pakistan cannot occur without the willful consent or support of the Kabul authorities,” Asif stated, asserting that multiple terrorist networks are currently active in Afghanistan. He further claimed that Delhi, Kabul, and affiliated militant groups are involved in destabilizing Pakistan through coordinated efforts.

The Defense Minister reiterated that Pakistan has consistently raised concerns about militant sanctuaries in Afghanistan and has urged Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being used against neighboring countries. However, he warned that continued inaction would compel Pakistan to exercise its right to self-defense.

Addressing regional tensions, Khawaja Asif also remarked that the possibility of conflict with India remains present. He emphasized that Pakistan remains vigilant and fully prepared to respond to any escalation, while continuing to advocate for peace based on mutual respect and non-interference.

Pakistan has faced a surge in militant attacks in recent months, particularly in border regions, heightening national security concerns. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and preventing external actors from exploiting instability in the region.

The Ministry of Defense reiterated that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with its neighbors but will not compromise on national security. All necessary measures will be taken to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and ensure regional stability.
