ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, chaired a high-level meeting to discuss Pakistan’s response to India’s recent move to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. The meeting, attended by key ministers, senior officials, and technical experts, focused on safeguarding Pakistan’s water rights.
Dar emphasized that Pakistan would take all necessary steps to protect its due share of water, as guaranteed under the Treaty. He condemned India’s unilateral and illegal action, stating that it violated international norms and the Treaty’s provisions. He further underscored the importance of the Treaty for regional stability and warned against India’s efforts to weaponize water.
“Water from the Indus River System is vital for Pakistan’s 240 million people,” Dar stated, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the full implementation of the Treaty to secure the country’s water rights and the well-being of its citizens.
