In a powerful reaffirmation of its commitment to regional stability, Pakistan has once again acted with responsibility and restraint in the face of Indian aggression, said Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, in an exclusive interview with The New York Times.
Despite India’s unilateral missile strikes on May 7, Pakistan responded with composure, limiting its actions strictly to defense and avoiding any escalation, the DG ISPR told the American daily. He emphasized that Pakistan’s measured response reflects a mature and responsible military doctrine anchored in the pursuit of peace.
“Even in the wake of aggression, Pakistan chose the path of restraint,” Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said. “Our focus remains on regional stability, and we continue to keep channels of communication open, even after hostilities.”
According to The New York Times, the Indian military targeted several Pakistani locations, including Noor Khan Airbase. In a calibrated yet firm response, the Pakistan Air Force shot down six Indian fighter jets, underlining the country’s robust defensive capability without widening the conflict.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif noted that Pakistan has shown full transparency regarding its human and material losses and questioned whether India is prepared to do the same. “We have nothing to hide. Can the same be said about New Delhi?” he asked.
The New York Times reported that while Pakistan respected the ceasefire and acted with responsibility, India’s provocations continued. The publication praised Islamabad’s diplomatic and military conduct, describing Pakistan’s posture as a model of restraint under pressure.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness for dialogue, stating that the door to peace remains open. “Pakistan’s commitment to peace is not a sign of weakness but of strength,” he said.
The statement marks a critical moment in South Asia’s tense security environment, as Pakistan underscores its readiness to defend its sovereignty while continuing to extend a hand for peace.
