Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said the arrest of Sharifullah, the alleged mastermind behind the deadly Abbey Gate bombing during the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan, is further proof of Pakistan’s firm commitment to counter-terrorism and global peace.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Foreign Office described the arrest as “a clear reflection of Pakistan’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism,” and emphasized that international cooperation in this fight remains a core pillar of the country’s national policy.
“Pakistan has consistently condemned all forms of terrorism,” the statement read. “Our counter-terrorism efforts have been comprehensive and effective, contributing significantly to regional and global security.”
The statement also dismissed Indian attempts to link the Pahalgam incident in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan-based groups, calling such efforts “misleading and divorced from ground realities.” It reiterated that Pakistan has taken robust action against all banned outfits — including arrests of leadership figures and the de-radicalisation of extremist elements.
Addressing India’s response to ongoing U.S. legal proceedings, the Foreign Office noted that while the matter falls under U.S. domestic jurisdiction, India’s habitual use of such events for anti-Pakistan propaganda is both irresponsible and politically motivated.
“India aims to deflect international attention from its own human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir and its aggressive regional posture,” the statement added.
Pakistan also called on the international community to adopt a fair, non-discriminatory, and collective approach to global terrorism. Highlighting the urgent need for designating “Majid Brigade” as an alias of the already banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the Foreign Office said it was essential to closing loopholes exploited by violent separatist networks.
“Pakistan remains a resilient nation that has made unmatched sacrifices in the global war against terrorism and will continue to support efforts for peace, stability, and justice,” the statement concluded.
