Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has instructed Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations to take immediate steps toward convening a session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in light of India’s recent aggressive actions, including the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, Pakistan will formally brief the Security Council on regional developments, emphasising how India’s unlawful and provocative moves threaten peace and stability in South Asia.
The initiative aims to bring international attention to what Islamabad sees as a direct threat to regional security and a violation of long-standing international agreements. Pakistan intends to highlight the broader implications of these actions, especially their potential to escalate tensions between two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The move is part of Pakistan’s wider diplomatic effort to present its case before the global community and seek international scrutiny of India’s recent decisions.
