Pakistan Secures Return of Soldier as India Accepts Ceasefire Understanding

In a move highlighting Pakistan’s principled stance and effective diplomacy, the country successfully secured the return of its soldier through a reciprocal prisoner exchange with India at the Wagah-Attari border on Tuesday.

Security sources confirmed that Muhammadullah of the Punjab Rangers, who had been in Indian custody, was handed over to Pakistani authorities. In return, Pakistan repatriated Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel Parnam Kumar Shah.

The exchange, carried out under Pakistan’s firm commitment to humanitarian norms and regional stability, follows a renewed contact between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries on May 12. During the high-level communication, India agreed to uphold the ceasefire understanding — a longstanding demand consistently raised by Pakistan to ensure peace along the Line of Control.

Officials in Pakistan view the return of its soldier as a testament to the country’s diplomatic resolve and operational clarity. The move is being seen as a step towards reasserting Pakistan’s rightful expectations from India under international and bilateral commitments.
