Pakistan Hands Over Bodies of 47 Armed Militants to Afghan Authorities

Pakistan handed over the bodies of 47 armed men to Afghan authorities following a tribal jirga. The men had crossed from Afghanistan into the Sumbaza area of Balochistan between August 7 and 9, launching attacks on Pakistani security forces. Their bodies remained unclaimed for 15 days, lying under the open sky until Afghan officials agreed to receive them.

According to Afghan authorities, most of the deceased were Afghan nationals from southern provinces. While not directly linked to the Afghan Taliban, reports suggest that they were brought along by a faction of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). One group of around 20 consisted solely of Afghans, of whom only two survived.

The episode has reignited debate over cross-border militancy, with Pakistani officials pressing Kabul to take responsibility for preventing armed groups from using Afghan soil as a staging ground for attacks.
