Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that ensuring the safety and security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan is a top priority for the government, especially as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) enters its second phase with a growing emphasis on business-to-business cooperation.

Chairing a high-level security review meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister stressed that a series of measures are underway to strengthen protection for Chinese citizens, particularly those involved in strategic infrastructure and development projects across Pakistan.

“China is Pakistan’s iron brother. Protecting our Chinese brothers is a matter of national importance,” said PM Shehbaz. “We are constructing world-class Safe City projects nationwide, setting new benchmarks in urban security management.”

He noted that the evolving CPEC framework has heightened the importance of Chinese personnel’s safety. “As Chinese investment expands, we are building a safe and business-friendly environment for our Chinese friends,” he added.

The Prime Minister also directed that priority measures be taken to ease the movement of Chinese citizens, particularly at airports, through enhanced facilitation services.

Key Security Measures Highlighted in the Briefing:

Special escort arrangements for Chinese nationals during travel

Ongoing construction of Safe City surveillance networks nationwide

Advanced surveillance cameras to be installed in all new housing schemes

Tight coordination between federal and provincial governments

Proactive intelligence and operational frameworks in light of terror threats

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi were among the senior officials present in the meeting.

Security officials briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of protection protocols, emphasising that threat assessments have led to robust security deployments around Chinese communities and work sites.

With CPEC Phase-II shifting focus to private-sector engagement, Chinese presence in Pakistan is expected to grow. PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Chinese companies’ confidence is critical for Pakistan’s economic trajectory, and their safety will not be compromised.
