A two-week Pakistan-Egypt joint counter-terrorism exercise, “Thunder-II,” commenced on Monday at the Special Operations School in Cherat, bringing together elite troops from both countries to enhance operational readiness, strengthen professional capabilities, and deepen longstanding military cooperation.
According to a news release issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), personnel from the Special Services Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army and the Special Forces of the Egyptian Army are participating in the exercise. The Commandant of the Special Operations School, Cherat, attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest, formally inaugurating the joint training activities.
The exercise is designed to provide a comprehensive platform for the exchange of professional expertise and operational experience in counter-terrorism. Through coordinated drills and joint training modules, participating troops will focus on refining tactical skills, improving interoperability, and enhancing their ability to respond effectively to evolving security challenges.
Military officials noted that such bilateral engagements play a vital role in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Egypt. The interaction between the two forces is expected to contribute to improved coordination in counter-terrorism operations, while also reinforcing the enduring partnership between the armed forces of the two countries.
“Thunder-II” reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Egypt to combating terrorism through collaborative efforts, capacity building, and the continuous development of professional competencies in a complex security environment.
