The federal government has officially declared Friday, May 16, as a National Day of Gratitude (Youm-e-Tashakkur) to pay tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces and commemorate their historic victory in the recent national defence operation.

According to official sources, the day will begin with Qur’an recitations and special prayers in mosques across the country. Gun salutes will be held to mark the occasion—31 cannons in the federal capital and 21 in each provincial capital—as a symbol of national pride and military honour.

Ceremonies for the changing of the guards will take place at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore, while flag-hoisting events are scheduled in both federal and provincial capitals.

The nation will also pay homage at war memorials, where floral wreaths will be laid and solemn tributes offered. Special meetings will be held with the families of martyrs of Operation Bunyān-e-Marsoos, acknowledging their immense sacrifice for the country’s sovereignty and peace.

Prime Minister to Address the Nation at Main Ceremony

The central event of Youm-e-Tashakkur will be held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad on Friday night, attended by dignitaries from all walks of life.

Prime Minister of Pakistan will serve as the chief guest, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and chiefs of the armed forces, underscoring the unity between the nation’s civilian and military leadership.

The ceremony aims to foster national solidarity, celebrate recent strategic achievements, and honour those who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
