Pakistan Cracks Down: Illegal Afghan Residents Face Expulsion After Deadline Lapses

In a bold move signaling the end of tolerance for undocumented stay, Pakistani authorities have issued final expulsion orders for Afghan nationals residing in the country without valid documentation.

According to a notification released by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs Department, all Afghan citizens whose Proof of Registration (PoR) cards expired on June 30, 2025, are now considered illegal residents and must leave the country immediately.

The crackdown follows a directive from the Federal Ministry of Interior under an official SRO, reinforcing that expired PoR holders without renewed legal status—such as an Afghan Citizen Card (ACC), visa, or passport—will no longer be allowed to remain in Pakistan.

Authorities have further warned that those failing to secure legal residency or depart voluntarily will face legal action, including arrest and deportation. Afghan nationals wishing to stay must obtain appropriate documentation through legal immigration channels.

Provincial and federal agencies have been instructed to identify, verify, and assist in the enforcement process, marking a decisive phase in Pakistan’s policy toward undocumented foreign nationals.

With this move, Islamabad has sent a clear message: the window for leniency is over, and illegal stay will no longer be tolerated.
