Pakistan categorically rejected recent remarks made by former U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton regarding its nuclear programme, expressing full confidence in the strength, integrity, and safety of its nuclear security architecture and command and control system.
Responding to Bolton’s endorsement of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s provocative call for placing Pakistan’s nuclear assets under international supervision, the Foreign Office spokesperson said, “Pakistan has absolute confidence in the efficacy of its comprehensive nuclear security regime. Our systems are secure, sophisticated, and fully compliant with international standards.”
The spokesperson strongly criticised Rajnath Singh’s track record of making aggressive statements against Pakistan, noting that, “It is ironic and alarming that individuals like Rajnath Singh — known for repeatedly issuing threats of aggression — hold authority over India’s nuclear arsenal. The international community should be far more concerned about India’s nuclear weapons being influenced by such dangerous rhetoric.”
The statement underscored serious concerns about the deteriorating internal dynamics in India, warning that the country’s political polarization, rising extremism, and sensationalist media have created an environment ripe with nuclear risk. “India’s internal climate — marked by radicalised politics and a history of nuclear black market activity — has amplified global concerns regarding the safety of its nuclear materials,” the spokesperson said.
“Repeated incidents of theft, loss, and illegal trafficking of sensitive nuclear material in India expose glaring weaknesses in its nuclear security framework,” the spokesperson added, urging the international community to focus attention where the real risk lies.
The remarks came in the wake of statements by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who urged that Pakistan’s nuclear assets be placed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a demand publicly supported by John Bolton in a recent appearance on Indian media.
Pakistan reaffirmed that its nuclear safety and security measures remain in line with the highest international standards, and emphasized that such politically motivated commentary from Indian leaders and their supporters only serves to further destabilize regional security.
