Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the Senate that Pakistan carried out intelligence-based operations inside Afghanistan after repeatedly presenting evidence of cross-border terrorism to the Afghan Taliban administration.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Chaudhry said Pakistan had shared detailed information regarding terrorist safe havens and training facilities operating from Afghan territory. However, he stated that no serious effort was observed on the part of the Taliban government to dismantle those networks.
According to the minister, Islamabad had even been asked during negotiations to provide ten billion rupees to facilitate the relocation of militants elsewhere. He added that Pakistan was not provided any written guarantees ensuring that infiltration into Pakistani territory would stop.
“All Terror Links Lead Back to Afghanistan”
Chaudhry stated that multiple terrorist incidents inside Pakistan have been traced back to Afghan soil. He referred to the suicide attack at a mosque in Islamabad that resulted in the martyrdom of around 35 to 36 worshippers, as well as attacks in Bajaur and Bannu where military officers and soldiers were martyred.
“Our forces are fighting a war for the protection of Pakistan,” he said, adding that the country cannot endure continued loss of life without response.
The minister confirmed that Pakistan conducted operations in three Afghan provinces, stressing that all actions were intelligence-based and strictly targeted at militant infrastructure. He clarified that no action was taken against civilians.
Pakistan, he said, continues to urge Afghanistan to engage in peace and prevent its territory from being used for terrorism. However, he emphasized that Pakistan reserves the right to conduct operations in self-defense.
No Compromise on National Security
Chaudhry told lawmakers that more than 100 terrorists were killed in the airstrikes and reiterated that there would be no compromise on national security.
“The blood of our security forces will be avenged. Every inch of Pakistan will be defended,” he stated.
He further asserted that Pakistan would continue its war against terrorism until militant networks are completely dismantled. “We will not only lift coffins anymore, but we will also respond decisively,” he said, underscoring what he described as a shift from restraint to active deterrence.
The minister concluded that the pattern of terrorism clearly indicates external facilitation, and that Pakistan’s response is aimed solely at protecting its sovereignty and citizens.
