Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace but made it clear that any future act of aggression would be met with a resolute and comprehensive response.
During a telephone conversation with President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister expressed profound gratitude for Azerbaijan’s steadfast support and solidarity with Pakistan amid the recent crisis in South Asia. He described President Aliyev’s continued backing as a testament to the deep affection and brotherhood that exists between the peoples of the two nations.
“The unwavering support extended by President Aliyev reflects the strong bond of friendship that ties our two countries together,” Prime Minister Shehbaz stated, adding that Azerbaijan’s consistent expression of solidarity during testing times underscores the historic and enduring nature of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations.
He also conveyed appreciation to the people of Azerbaijan for standing with Pakistan, noting that their support once again affirmed the two nations’ shared commitment to mutual respect, trust, and brotherhood.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan had entered into a ceasefire understanding with India in the interest of preserving regional peace and stability, and remains firmly committed to its continuation. However, he expressed deep concern over recent provocative statements by the Indian leadership, stressing that Pakistan would not compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity under any circumstances.
He reiterated that the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the core cause of instability in South Asia, and called for its resolution in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. In this context, the Prime Minister thanked President Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s principled support of the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination.
Highlighting the growing economic cooperation between the two countries, the Prime Minister said Pakistan was determined to transform its strategic partnership with Azerbaijan into a robust and mutually beneficial economic alliance. He expressed satisfaction over the progress in finalizing proposals for Azerbaijani investments worth $2 billion in key sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
The Prime Minister renewed his invitation to President Aliyev for an official visit to Pakistan. President Aliyev graciously accepted the invitation.
President Aliyev congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan’s resolute handling of the recent tensions and welcomed the country’s commitment to peace through the ceasefire understanding. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s strong determination to further deepen and expand its fraternal ties with Pakistan across all spheres.
