Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for Iran’s right to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, calling it a legitimate entitlement under international norms. He also voiced strong opposition to all forms of terrorism and condemned cross-border militant activities destabilizing the region.
Speaking at a joint press conference following a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is on his first official visit to Pakistan, the prime minister said the two leaders held comprehensive discussions covering bilateral relations, regional security, cultural and religious ties, and shared geopolitical interests.
Highlighting Pakistan’s position, Shehbaz Sharif stated:
“Iran has every right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy. Pakistan fully supports Iran’s stance and stands by it in advocating for nuclear rights based on peaceful objectives.”
The prime minister strongly condemned Israel’s recent aggression against Iran, describing the attacks as unjustified and provocative.
“In June, Israel carried out unprovoked aggression against Iran. Pakistan and its people denounced the attack and stood with the Iranian nation,” he said.
During the high-level engagement, both sides signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation. PM Sharif expressed the hope that these MoUs would soon be formalised into agreements, as the two countries target a $10 billion trade goal.
Addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Shehbaz Sharif condemned the continued Israeli atrocities and called on the international community to raise its voice against the brutality.
“Newborn babies, women, and young people are being martyred in Gaza. The world must not remain silent. There should be an immediate ceasefire,” he stressed.
He also drew a parallel between Gaza and occupied Kashmir, saying that both regions suffer from systematic oppression. He praised Iran’s leadership for consistently speaking up for the Palestinian cause, adding that Pakistan has raised its voice for Palestine at every international forum.
Touching on the issue of terrorism, the prime minister made it clear that Pakistan will not tolerate any form of terrorism, whether foreign-backed or locally driven.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, called Pakistan “a second home.” He praised Islamabad’s vocal support against Israeli actions and underlined the need for unity across the Muslim world.
“In today’s world, unity among Muslim nations is more necessary than ever,” said Pezeshkian, adding that Iran and Pakistan’s close cultural and religious ties form the foundation for long-term cooperation.
The Iranian leader said good relations with Pakistan are a cornerstone of Iran’s foreign policy, and that both countries are working to expand their partnership through joint economic zones, enhanced border trade, and coordinated efforts to improve border security.
“Regional peace and development are deeply connected,” the Iranian president stated. “Unfortunately, Israel is following an agenda of destabilisation across the region.”
Earlier, President Pezeshkian was welcomed with full state honours at the Prime Minister House. A guard of honour was presented, national anthems of both countries were played, and the Iranian president also planted a tree to mark the significance of the visit.
