Pakistan Army on Wednesday foiled a coordinated cross-border assault by Afghan Taliban and Khawarij militants in the Chaman–Spin Boldak sector, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers and reaffirming Pakistan’s determination to defend its frontiers, security sources said.
According to officials, the militants launched simultaneous attacks from three positions across the border in the early hours of the morning. Pakistan Army’s swift and accurate retaliation forced the attackers to retreat after suffering significant casualties. Reports indicated that between 15 and 20 Taliban fighters were killed, while several others fled leaving behind their dead and weapons.
Security sources said the Afghan Taliban and Khawarij fighters used civilian villages as cover, endangering local populations. During the exchange, the militants also destroyed the Pakistan-Afghanistan Friendship Gate on their side of the border. Officials described the act as evidence of the Taliban’s hostility toward peace, trade, and cross-border movement, underscoring their disregard for regional stability.
The sources added that Pakistan’s retaliatory firepower was both effective and proportionate, neutralising enemy positions with precision. “Our forces responded decisively to protect the border and prevent any violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty,” a security official said.
The attack marked yet another failed attempt by the Afghan Taliban and Khawarij elements to provoke conflict along the frontier. Security forces remain on high alert amid reports of additional militant movements near Spin Boldak.
Officials reaffirmed that any further aggression would meet an equally forceful response. “Pakistan’s resolve is unshakable—our forces will continue to safeguard the nation’s borders with full strength and professionalism,” the security source added.
