In the wake of a devastating tragedy that claimed the lives of four children and injured five others in the Mamund Tehsil of Bajaur, the Pakistan Army has launched and intensified a sweeping clearance operation to neutralise explosive threats deliberately planted by terrorists of India-sponsored proxy, Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP), in civilian areas.
The incident occurred on 27 September 2025, when children in the village of Lagharai came across an improvised explosive device (IED) left behind by the Khawarij. While playing, the device detonated, leading to the martyrdom of four innocent children and injuring five more. The Pakistan Army expresses its deepest condolences to the grieving families and vows to bring those responsible to justice.
In immediate response to the incident, military units deployed across the affected region initiated targeted operations to detect and dismantle any remaining explosive devices. Acting on timely intelligence, troops successfully located and defused a live explosive shell in the nearby village of Ghakhi, averting another potential tragedy.
Security officials confirm that the militants have adopted increasingly deceptive tactics, including engaging children in games such as cricket to lower their defences, only to later abandon dangerous explosive materials in those same areas. A recent viral video from the same region showed militants playing with local children a disturbing prelude to this tragic outcome.
These actions are a hallmark of the Khawarij mindset: using religion as a disguise while deliberately endangering innocent lives, particularly those of children. Their tactics are neither ideological nor revolutionary they are acts of terror that violate the core principles of humanity and Islam.
The Pakistan Army remains fully committed to protecting civilians and restoring peace in Bajaur and all conflict-affected areas. Specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams are continuing operations to secure homes, schools, and public spaces. The local population is being engaged through community elders and civil leadership to raise awareness and promote timely reporting of suspicious objects.
The public is strongly urged to exercise extreme caution. Any unknown or suspicious item should not be touched under any circumstances. Instead, citizens are advised to immediately alert the nearest security post, police station, or call the appropriate emergency helpline.
The Army reiterates its unwavering resolve to eliminate the threat posed by terrorist elements and prevent further loss of innocent lives. The blood of our children will not be forgotten, and the perpetrators will be held accountable.
Our fight is not only for territorial security but for the protection of every innocent life that calls Pakistan home.
