Pakistan and Iraq Air Forces Move Toward Deeper Defence Cooperation: ISPR

In a significant development aimed at strengthening bilateral defence ties, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), held high-level talks with Lieutenant General Staff Pilot Mohanad Ghalib Mohammed Radi Al-Asadi, Commander of the Iraqi Air Force, during his official visit to Iraq.

Upon arrival at Iraqi Air Force Headquarters, the Air Chief was accorded a Guard of Honour, reflecting the strong bond of mutual respect and the growing strategic relationship between the two air forces.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on enhancing bilateral military cooperation, with a particular focus on joint training programmes, capacity building, and improving operational interoperability. The talks underscored a shared commitment to expanding professional collaboration in response to evolving regional security challenges.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu highlighted the deep-rooted religious, cultural, and historical ties between Pakistan and Iraq, reaffirming the Pakistan Air Force’s readiness to support the Iraqi Air Force in training and capacity development initiatives. He emphasized PAF’s experience in modern air warfare, training excellence, and operational readiness as key areas of cooperation.

Both commanders agreed to pursue joint air exercises and structured training initiatives, aimed at strengthening interoperability and enhancing combat preparedness of the two air forces.

The Iraqi Air Force Commander lauded the professionalism, operational excellence, and technological advancement of the Pakistan Air Force. He expressed keen interest in leveraging PAF’s world-class training infrastructure and showed particular enthusiasm for Pakistan’s indigenous aviation platforms, including the JF-17 Thunder multi-role fighter aircraft and the Super Mushshak basic trainer aircraft. He also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

The visit marks an important step forward in Pakistan–Iraq defence relations, reinforcing a shared vision of collaboration, trust, and long-term military partnership.

The engagement reflects the determination of both air forces to deepen defence cooperation, expand professional collaboration, and jointly contribute to regional and global security.
