Mohammad Sadiq Khan, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, held in-depth discussions with Yue Xiaoyong, China’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, following the latter’s arrival from Kabul. The talks focused on pressing regional security concerns and underscored the importance of close Pakistan-China coordination on Afghanistan-related issues.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sadiq Khan stated that the discussions centered on the threats posed by militant groups, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM). He highlighted that these groups not only destabilize Afghanistan but also pose direct risks to Pakistan and China, demonstrating the transnational nature of modern security threats.
Both sides emphasized the importance of collective action and coordinated measures to counter these threats and ensure lasting peace and stability in the region. The talks also covered strategies for enhanced intelligence sharing, monitoring, and proactive diplomatic engagement to prevent militant activities from escalating.
Mohammad Sadiq Khan remarked, “Pakistan and China share a common interest in regional stability. Close cooperation is essential to mitigate the risks posed by militant networks and to create conditions conducive to long-term peace.”
Yue Xiaoyong reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in regional security initiatives and underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination to combat terrorism and extremism effectively.
Officials noted that follow-up consultations are planned to sustain dialogue and ensure operational coordination, including joint efforts on counterterrorism measures and regional stability initiatives.
