Pakistan has agreed to a temporary ceasefire with the Afghan Taliban regime after receiving a formal request from the group to pause hostilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the ceasefire will come into effect at 6 PM today and will last for the next 48 hours. According to sources, the ceasefire has already begun on the ground.
The decision comes amid ongoing efforts by both parties to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than violence. The Ministry emphasized that this temporary truce aims to create a conducive environment for constructive talks, with the hope of finding a positive and lasting resolution to regional tensions.
To facilitate the dialogue, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Muhammad Sadiq, is set to engage with Afghan officials, potentially including Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, in upcoming negotiations. These talks are viewed as a critical step toward addressing outstanding security and political issues affecting both nations.
Officials expressed optimism that the ceasefire and ensuing discussions could help stabilize the region and contribute to broader peace efforts.
