Trilateral talks involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China have successfully concluded in Urumqi, marking a constructive step toward improving bilateral relations between Islamabad and Kabul through sustained dialogue and mutual cooperation.
According to Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegations from all three countries comprised senior representatives from their respective foreign affairs, defense, and security institutions. The meeting focused on addressing key challenges in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and identifying pathways toward long-term stability.
Both the Afghan and Pakistani sides reaffirmed their adherence to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. They emphasized their shared commitment to resolving outstanding differences at the earliest possible stage and working collectively toward a positive transformation in bilateral relations.
In a significant gesture of goodwill, both delegations agreed to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions or further complicate the situation, underscoring a mutual understanding of the importance of restraint and constructive engagement.
The participants expressed appreciation for China’s role as host and mediator, commending its efforts in facilitating dialogue and providing a neutral platform for discussions. Both sides acknowledged China’s balanced and constructive approach, highlighting its contribution to advancing regional peace and stability.
The trilateral meeting resulted in an agreement to develop a comprehensive framework aimed at addressing core and priority issues affecting Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
