Pakistan and Afghanistan have initiated high-level talks in Kabul focusing on security, peace, and mutual cooperation, marking a renewed diplomatic engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Kabul earlier today, where he was received by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Dar is accompanied by a high-level Pakistani delegation for the official visit.
Speaking to media representatives at Nur Khan Airbase prior to departure, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering close ties with Afghanistan. “Afghanistan is our brotherly and neighbouring country. We aim to work together for mutual benefit,” he said.
Acknowledging a period of recent diplomatic coldness, Dar stated, “There has been a phase of estrangement between the two countries, but the Prime Minister and all relevant stakeholders have now decided to re-engage in dialogue with Afghanistan.”
During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to hold meetings with Afghanistan’s interim Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. Delegation-level talks between Foreign Minister Dar and his Afghan counterpart Amir Khan Muttaqi will also take place, covering a broad spectrum of issues including security, trade, regional connectivity, and people-to-people relations.
