Over 250 Khawarij Detected in Bajaur’s Mamund; Three-Week Deadline Set for Clearance Operation

Security forces have identified the presence of more than 250 Khawarij in Mamund tehsil of Bajaur and set a three-week target to complete a comprehensive clearance operation.  As part of precautionary measures, around 22,500 families were temporarily relocated from sensitive areas of Mamund to protect civilian lives. Security forces have since cleared several localities, enabling the safe return of approximately 4,500 families to their homes.

Security officials said the operation has been deliberately calibrated to avoid large-scale civilian losses and damage to infrastructure, a factor that has posed operational challenges. “Our approach is focused on precision and protection of non-combatants. While this makes the operation more complex, it is essential to safeguard lives,” an official stated.

The official added that a handful of local facilitators were aiding the Khawarij, complicating security efforts. He urged residents to cooperate fully with security forces, stressing that with public support, the clearance could be completed in a matter of days rather than weeks.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to restore normalcy swiftly. Humanitarian and relief measures have been activated for displaced families, while law enforcement has warned that anyone found assisting the Khawarij will face strict legal consequences.
