Over 1,200 Afghan Nationals Repatriated as Families Return Home

Landi Kotal, 16 April 2025 – A total of 1,275 Afghan nationals, including 243 families, have been repatriated as part of a major operation that saw their return to Afghanistan. The latest movement, documented at the Hamza Baba transit camp in Landi Kotal, involves both legally registered and undocumented Afghan migrants.

Official figures show that 98 families, comprising 526 individuals, were repatriated under the Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) program. This group includes 243 men, 226 women, and 806 children. However, there were no families or individuals recorded under the Proof of Registration (POR) category, which may indicate a lack of formal documentation for some returnees.

In addition, 145 families, totaling 749 individuals, were identified as “illegal migrants.” This group, consisting of 145 men, 127 women, and 477 children, is also being sent back as part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to address undocumented migration.

From Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 20 ACC-registered families (110 individuals) were part of the repatriation movement, while 32 illegal migrant families (145 individuals) were also included in the operation.

The repatriation is part of a larger initiative aimed at managing the return of Afghan refugees who had been residing in Pakistan, some for many years, due to security and humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan.
