NRF Claims Rocket Strike on Taliban Facilities in Faizabad, Badakhshan

The National Resistance Front (NRF) has claimed responsibility for a coordinated rocket attack targeting multiple Taliban-linked sites in Faizabad, the capital of Faizabad, according to statements and local sources.

The group stated that the operation targeted the Taliban governor’s office area and associated installations, claiming it resulted in the deaths of two Taliban members and injuries to another. The NRF further asserted that no civilian casualties were reported during the attack.

Local sources in Badakhshan Province confirmed that at least three locations were struck during the Wednesday night incident. These included an area near the First Police District close to the governor’s office, a residence reportedly used by a Taliban guard, and an office linked to the Taliban Ulema Council.

According to these sources, rockets landed in separate parts of the city in a coordinated manner. However, initial assessments suggested no immediate casualties on the ground, creating a discrepancy between local observations and the NRF’s claimed figures.

The targeted strike comes amid continued tensions in northern Afghanistan, where the Taliban administration has maintained control since 2021. Security conditions in the region remain volatile, with sporadic incidents reported in several provinces.

Local Taliban officials have not yet issued any statement regarding the incident, and independent verification of the claims remains limited at this stage. Observers note that such attacks, if confirmed, could indicate an escalation in coordinated opposition activity against Taliban positions in northern Afghanistan, particularly in strategically sensitive provinces such as Badakhshan.

Authorities and independent monitors are expected to further assess the situation as more information becomes available.
