A Government High School in Shiwa Tehsil, North Waziristan, was severely damaged in a drone attack reportedly carried out by Khawarij militants, in what authorities have described as a deliberate act targeting educational infrastructure.
According to official sources, the attack struck the Government High School Shamazai Kot, located in the Miami Kabul Khel area of Daurzanda in North Waziristan. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 80 percent of the school building has been destroyed due to the impact and subsequent structural damage.
The strike occurred just days before schools across the region were scheduled to reopen on March 1, raising serious concerns about the safety of educational institutions and the deliberate disruption of academic activities. Officials confirmed that the facility sustained extensive damage to classrooms, administrative offices, and boundary structures.
Security sources have attributed the attack to Khawarij elements operating in the region, describing it as a cowardly attempt to undermine stability and hinder access to education. Authorities strongly condemned the assault, emphasizing that targeting schools constitutes an attack on the future of the community and the fundamental right to education.
Law enforcement agencies and security forces have launched an investigation into the incident. The affected area has been secured, and intelligence-based operations are reportedly underway to track down those responsible.
Local administration officials have stated that damage assessments are ongoing and that immediate steps will be taken to restore educational activities. Temporary arrangements are being considered to ensure that students’ education continues without prolonged disruption.
