Pakistan’s fight against terrorism requires the unity of the entire nation, not just security forces, officials have emphasized during a recent briefing with media representatives.
Security sources highlighted that the struggle against groups such as Fitna al-Khwarij and Fitna al-Hindustan is a nationwide effort. Success, they noted, depends on the full implementation of the National Action Plan across all provinces.
Officials warned that all sponsored terrorism inside Pakistan is linked to external actors, particularly India, and underscored the role of Afghanistan-based training in recent attacks, including the deadly assault on the Tarlai mosque.
“Regardless of political or religious affiliation, all Pakistanis must stand united against terrorism,” the sources said, adding that divisions based on ethnicity, language, or provincial identity must be avoided to effectively eliminate insurgent threats.
Security officials noted that Fitna al-Hindustan is a direct threat to the development of Balochistan and its people. They also cited progress in curbing smuggling networks, including Iranian petrol and diesel smuggling, which had historically funded militant activities.
“Good governance is the only sustainable way to eradicate terrorism at its roots,” the sources said. They added that the public, particularly in Balochistan, has begun identifying and rejecting militant elements hiding behind slogans of deprivation.
The briefing further highlighted that National Action Plan implementation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been key in controlling militancy there, with recent meetings in the province described as “encouraging.”
Security sources also praised the resilience of Pakistan’s youth, noting that visits to educational institutions show the population, especially students, standing firmly alongside the armed forces. They warned that no narrative or political statement could undermine the relationship between the military and the people.
Regarding political discourse, officials said that while all parties have the right to dialogue, the military is not a political actor. They condemned recent remarks by opposition leaders targeting the armed forces as “regrettable and false.”
Finally, security sources emphasized that legal matters and court cases must be resolved strictly according to the Constitution and law, with the judiciary as the sole authority.
