Nation Observes Youm-e-Tashakur to Mark Historic Victory in Battle for Truth

The government of Pakistan has declared May 16, 2025 as Youm-e-Tashakur (Thanksgiving Day) to commemorate the nation’s historic victory in the Battle for Truth, celebrating the resilience of the Pakistani people and the valour of the armed forces.

Across the country, the day began with Quran recitations and special prayers in mosques, offering gratitude for the triumph. In honour of the occasion, a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals were held at dawn, symbolizing national pride and unity.

In a significant revelation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan had downed six—not five—Indian aircraft, underscoring the scale of the country’s successful defense operations.

Flag hoisting ceremonies took place in Islamabad and provincial capitals, while solemn wreath-laying ceremonies were held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada across the country. Special prayer gatherings paid tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.

At the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore, ceremonial guard-changing ceremonies were conducted with full military honours, further marking the spirit of national remembrance.

Special meetings were arranged with the families of those who embraced martyrdom during Operation Bunyān Marsūs, as the nation collectively honoured their ultimate sacrifice.

The highlight of the day, the main Youm-e-Tashakur ceremony, will be held tonight at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. The Prime Minister will attend as chief guest, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces, reflecting the unified spirit of civilian and military leadership.

Today’s commemorations stand as a powerful reminder of Pakistan’s strength, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to defending truth and sovereignty.
