Bannu continues to face persistent threats from Khawarij, with the latest incident involving a quad-copter attack targeting the Police Lines within the cantonment area, marking a shift from previous assaults on the Miryan police station.
According to local sources, a drone dropped an improvised explosive device inside the Police Lines area, injuring one police officer. The wounded officer was immediately moved to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police attempted to shoot down the drone during the attack but were unsuccessful.
This is not the first such incident. Just two days prior, Khawarij attempted back-to-back attacks on the Miryan Police Station, marking the seventh such attempt in a month, as well as the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) station. However, those attempts were foiled due to swift response by security personnel.
The recent drone strike, however, underscores a dangerous escalation in the tactics employed by the Khawarij, shifting from ground assaults to aerial threats using drones, a method previously rare in the region.
Despite these threats, local police continue to stand firm. The growing frequency of attacks highlights the need for enhanced counter-drone capabilities and stronger collaboration between law enforcement and intelligence services to stay ahead of evolving terrorist tactics.
