Militants Storm Iran Police Post, Kill Officer; Three Shot Dead

A police officer was killed and three militants shot dead after extremists attempted to storm a police station in Iran’s restive southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, Iranian media reported on Sunday. According to Tasnim News Agency, the attackers, identified as members of the militant group Jaish al-Adl, tried to force their way into the Saravan police station. Security forces returned fire, killing three assailants on the spot and arresting two others.

The province, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been a flashpoint for clashes between security forces and insurgents or smugglers, including militants claiming to fight for greater rights and autonomy.

The attack comes amid a series of deadly incidents in the region. On July 26, gunmen stormed a courthouse in Zahedan, killing at least six people in an assault later claimed by Jaish al-Adl. In October, ten police officers were killed in one of the deadliest attacks in the province in recent years. In September 2024, at least three police officers were killed in separate militant assaults, while in April the same year, five officers were gunned down.
