Four police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were martyred while two were injured, in a gun battle with terrorists in Dera Ismail Khan, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The exchange of fire took place in Wanda Badh area within the jurisdiction of Paniala Police Station, where militants opened fire on a police contingent during an operation.
Officials said SHO Faheem Mumtaz Khan Marwat was among those who embraced martyrdom in the clash, along with four other police personnel.
DSP Paharpur Circle Adnan and a sepoy were critically injured during the firefight and was shifted to a medical facility for emergency treatment. Their condition is reported to be serious.
Following the incident, heavy police reinforcements rushed to the site. The area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to track down the fleeing militants.
Security officials stated that additional contingents have been deployed to secure surrounding localities, while intelligence-based follow-up operations are expected.
Authorities reiterated their resolve to eliminate terrorist elements and maintain law and order across the region.
