Major Terror Plot Thwarted in Lakki Marwat, Mass Casualties Avoided

In a significant counterterrorism success, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police thwarted a major terrorist plot in Lakki Marwat, averting what could have been a devastating attack on a busy public roadway. Acting on human intelligence and under the special directives of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, local police and the Bomb Disposal Squad successfully neutralized a 40-kilogram remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED).

The device had been planted on the Lakki–Mianwali National Highway near Nala Bridge, a strategically sensitive and densely populated location. Notably, the site lies directly opposite several schools and the Frontier Institute of Education and Research, placing hundreds of students, staff, and daily commuters at grave risk.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan, authorities received credible intelligence regarding the presence of an explosive device at the location. Responding immediately, City Police Station personnel cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and prevent civilian casualties.

The Bomb Disposal Squad, employing advanced equipment and tactical expertise, carefully defused the improvised explosive device. The bomb had been concealed inside a drum and contained more than 40 kilograms of explosive material. Two detonators, a 12-volt battery, and an integrated circuit system were also recovered from the scene.

Security officials stated that the placement of such a powerful explosive at a critical public site indicates a deliberate attempt by hostile elements to cause mass casualties, spread fear, and destabilize the region. The swift and professional response by law enforcement prevented what could have been a catastrophic incident.

Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed commended the Lakki Marwat Police and the Bomb Disposal Squad for their timely and courageous action. “The installation of a bomb at a public location clearly exposes the malicious intent of terrorists,” he stated. “Our officers, who risk their lives in the line of duty to protect innocent citizens, are the true heroes of our society.”

The provincial police chief also urged citizens to play an active role in safeguarding their communities by identifying and reporting suspicious individuals. “Terrorists seek only to create chaos and panic. Public cooperation is essential in defeating these hidden threats,” he emphasized.

Local residents expressed appreciation for the prompt response of the police, acknowledging that the operation likely saved numerous innocent lives.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for planting the explosive device. Law enforcement agencies reaffirm their unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring the safety and security of the public.
