In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, the Afghan Taliban administration has initiated a phased operation to disarm members of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and relocate them away from the Pakistani border, addressing Islamabad’s long-standing security concerns.
Reliable sources confirmed that the development came following high-level talks in Kabul between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. The meeting, which lasted two hours and forty minutes, focused exclusively on the grave threat posed by TTP Khawarij operating from Afghan soil.
During the talks, the Pakistani delegation delivered a firm message, stating, “We are exhausted from burying our martyrs. The continued use of Afghan territory for attacks against Pakistan must end.” The delegation urged the Afghan side to treat the matter with urgency and sincerity, adding, “Do not appease those who are enemies of both your state and ours.”
In response, the Afghan delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s concerns and assured full cooperation. Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani responded, “We are ready to work with you, but the process will require time.” The Afghan side further revealed that they had already begun relocating TTP operatives to remote areas such as Ghazni and had initiated the process of disarming them. According to the Afghan delegation, a large number of arrests have been made, including Afghan nationals affiliated with the TTP who were directly involved in cross-border attacks.
The initiation of this process marks a critical shift in Kabul’s posture toward the TTP, which has been responsible for countless deadly attacks inside Pakistan. The decision to disarm and isolate the Khawarij is being seen as a key step toward dismantling the group’s operational capabilities and restoring regional security.
Security analysts and diplomatic observers view the move as a positive outcome of Pakistan’s persistent engagement with the Afghan Taliban leadership. The two sides have agreed to maintain close coordination to ensure that Afghan soil is not used to orchestrate violence against Pakistan, and to work jointly against all threats to regional peace.
The Pakistani government has reiterated that peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved without concrete and verifiable action against the TTP and other hostile elements exploiting Afghan territory.
