In a major counter terrorism success, security forces killed Umar Marri alias Dakashi, a senior commander of the banned Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) Majeed Brigade, during a precisely-executed intelligence-based operation in the Sang area of Harnai district, Balochistan. According to security officials, the operation was launched after credible intelligence confirmed the presence of high value militant targets in the rugged terrain of Sang. The forces swiftly engaged the militants, eliminating Umar Marri one of BLA’s most wanted and operationally active figures. He is believed to have been directly involved in orchestrating deadly attacks on law enforcement agencies, ambushes on convoys, sabotage of strategic infrastructure, and targeted killings in Balochistan.
Umar Marri had been a key operative within the Majeed Brigade, the BLA’s elite faction known for carrying out high-profile suicide attacks. His death marks a significant blow to the group’s operational network and command structure. “This operation underscores the unwavering resolve of Pakistan’s security forces to eliminate terrorism and dismantle militant networks across Balochistan,” a senior official said. “With the elimination of Umar Marri, a critical threat to regional peace and security has been neutralized.”
The successful action comes amid an intensified nationwide crackdown against terrorist elements, particularly in restive areas where separatist groups have sought to destabilise the state. The security forces have vowed to continue targeted operations until the complete restoration of peace. Search and clearance efforts are ongoing in the area, with reinforcements deployed to ensure no remnants of the network remain.
