Security and intelligence sources have revealed a disturbing link between Mahrang Baloch, a known separatist figure, and the internationally designated terrorist organization Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), highlighting a growing threat to peace and security in the region.
According to intelligence reports, the BLA, allegedly funded and supported by foreign actors including India, has been exploiting youth organizations such as the so-called BYC (Baloch Yakjahtee Committee) to recruit college and university students. These groups reportedly use protests and rallies as a cover to indoctrinate students, incite them against state security forces, and channel them toward armed militancy in remote areas.
Historical patterns indicate that family networks play a critical role in the recruitment and operational planning of terrorist activities. Mahrang’s father, a former member of a banned organization, was reportedly killed during a prior militant operation. Now, another family member, his cousin Saifullah, has been linked to similar extremist activities, suggesting continuity in familial involvement in terrorism.
Investigations into missing persons and related incidents reveal a pattern where students appearing in BYC protest campaigns are later found to be actively participating in terrorist operations. Sources indicate that individuals featured in protest posters often turn out to be operatives involved in violent attacks against security forces and are frequently neutralized during counter-terrorism operations.
Two years ago, Mahrang reportedly orchestrated a staged disappearance of his cousin to create the impression of victimization while simultaneously facilitating his engagement in militant operations in remote mountainous areas. Intelligence officials now warn that Saifullah, Mahrang’s other cousin, may also be involved in attacks targeting civilians and security personnel in Balochistan.
Security analysts emphasize that this nexus underscores the persistent threat posed by extremist networks that exploit youth and educational institutions for recruitment. They warn that without vigilant monitoring and proactive measures, such networks may continue to destabilize the region, perpetrate violent acts, and endanger innocent lives.
Authorities are calling for enhanced intelligence coordination, community awareness, and counter-radicalization programs to prevent the exploitation of students and the spread of terrorist influence.
