Libyan security forces have arrested an Indian national wanted by Interpol for alleged links to the militant Islamic State group (ISIS) during a coordinated operation in the Al-Murgub region. The Intervention and Control Force Al-Murgub Branch confirmed on Tuesday that the arrest took place on Sunday following intelligence reports pinpointing the suspect’s location. The operation was jointly conducted with the General Department of Criminal Investigation, the Internal Security Agency, the local police station, and the Criminal Investigation Department in Gasr Al-Akhyar.
According to the official statement, security units raided a residence where the man had been hiding and discovered a large cache of weapons and explosives. Among the seized materials were a Mercedes vehicle fitted with explosives and significant quantities of bomb-making components prepared for possible terrorist operations.
The suspect was detained without resistance, while all confiscated items were documented before being transferred to the competent authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Officials underlined that the arrest forms part of continuing operations to combat terrorism and organised crime in Libya. “We remain determined to pursue all terrorist elements and dismantle networks that threaten national security, in full coordination with security partners,” the Intervention and Control Force stated.
The development underscores Libya’s persistent battle against extremist groups exploiting the country’s instability, while also highlighting the growing cooperation with Interpol and international partners to tackle transnational terrorism.
