A police constable was martyred after Khwarij opened fire on him in tehsil Landi Kotal, police officials confirmed.
According to police sources, Constable Muaz Shinwari, who also served as the in-charge of the Hamza Baba shrine, was returning home after completing his duty when terrorists ambushed him and opened fire. He sustained critical injuries and was martyred on the spot.
Soon after the incident, a heavy police contingent rushed to the site, cordoned off the area, and began collecting forensic evidence while launching a search operation to trace and apprehend the attackers.
Police officials noted that this marks the third attack targeting police personnel during the holy month of Ramadan, raising concerns within security circles about renewed attempts to target law enforcement officers.
Following the attack, local residents expressed deep grief and anger, strongly condemning the incident and demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible so they can be brought to justice.
Authorities said investigations are underway and security in the area has been further tightened to prevent similar incidents.
