Lakki Marwat on Alert as Jirga Targets Terrorists and Facilitators Amid Rising Threat

In response to a recent surge in violence, a high-level security jirga was held in the Ahmad Khel area of Lakki Marwat, bringing together military officials, tribal elders, and representatives of local peace committees. The jirga focused sharply on counter-terrorism efforts, particularly the growing threat of Khawarij and their local facilitators.

The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in the district, where violence has spiked in recent weeks. Just yesterday, an improvised explosive device (IED) was successfully defused, and a gas pipeline was targeted, and blown up, for the fourth time, raising serious concerns about deteriorating security and persistent sabotage attempts by anti-state elements.

During the jirga, officials stressed that both active terrorists and their facilitators will be treated equally and dealt with firmly. Participants were urged to report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar individuals in their communities immediately to security agencies. Emphasis was placed on dismantling support networks that provide shelter, logistics, or intelligence to militant groups operating in the region.

Community elders were also advised to closely monitor the activities of local youth to prevent their recruitment into extremist networks. The jirga highlighted the need for greater awareness campaigns and proactive guidance to steer the younger generation away from radical influences.

While the military assured that surrendered militants would be treated with fairness, the central message remained clear: anyone aiding terrorism, directly or indirectly, would face strict legal consequences.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the Pakistan Armed Forces and praised their continued efforts to restore peace in Lakki Marwat, a district now on the front-line of a renewed militant push, fueled by Khawarij propaganda and a desperate bid to regain influence.
