In the wake of a deadly IED attack that claimed the lives of seven police personnel in the Betani area, the Aman Committee Police in Lakki Marwat has announced the closure of all entry and exit points to and from the district. The measure is part of a comprehensive crackdown against militants and their facilitators.
According to leader of the Aman Committee Police, the move is intended to “make the ground narrow for terrorists” and ensure that individuals who assist, shelter, or support them are held accountable. “We have made the ground narrow for the terrorists, but we will no longer spare their facilitators and those who support them,” said during an official announcement.
The road closures target three key routes: the road near Betani police station, the Daltangbal route, and the highway leading toward Peshawar. While supply vehicles are currently restricted, passenger traffic continues temporarily to avoid civilian hardship. However, leader of the Aman Committee warned that after Eid al-Fitr, all types of vehicle movement may be suspended if authorities fail to address security concerns in the area.
The announcement follows a protest organized by local volunteers and committee members, who gathered after the funeral of the slain officers to demand stronger security measures. Leader of the Aman Committee emphasized the importance of community unity in supporting these efforts, urging residents and the wider Pashtun community to cooperate with the measures to safeguard public safety. “These steps are being taken for the protection of our communities and to push for decisive action against militant threats in Lakki Marwat,” he stated.
The Aman Committee Police reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing security and countering militant activity in the district. Authorities expressed hope that, with sustained cooperation from residents and effective action by law enforcement, normal traffic and daily life will eventually resume.
