Russian President Vladimir Putin currently has no plans to initiate direct contact with Taliban leaders, the Kremlin clarified on Friday.
Responding to a query about possible talks between Putin and the Taliban leadership, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “At present, there are no such plans.” He added that contacts between the two sides will continue “within the framework of bilateral relations” and at various other levels.
Although Moscow has recently expanded its engagement with the Taliban, notably by accepting a Taliban-appointed ambassador, Peskov’s remarks underscore that high-level dialogue remains off the table for now.
